5 years old, distilled 22nd April 2014, 62.2% abv, Second Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel, 248 bottles, dram price A
The nose has bonfire smoke, soot, lemon and hints of toffee. The mouthfeel is decent with a little cling. The body has smoke, tar, lemon, peach, sultanas and hints of chilli. The finish has smoke, tar, lemon, ginger and hints of chilli.
Water brings out tight, thin whorling that’s compact and lingers for a moment before dissipating. The nose gains menthol, and loses the soot. The body gains more lemon, peach and kiwi fruit and loses some of the tar. The finish gains peach and loses the chilli.
A complex peated dram at 5 years of age? Yes. And so much more. Delightful, delectable, desirous. Get thee behind me Satan - there’s a queue for this, and you should have turned up earlier!
One for the end of any great evening.
Technical score: 4/5
Personal preference: I’d like more than one bottle.
