The nose has old leather tobacco pouches, spiced fruit punch and a touch of oak. The mouthfeel is thin with no cling. The body has pears, red apples, cinnamon, dry earth on a hot summer’s day and a touch of old leather. The finish has red apples, cinnamon and old leather tobacco pouches.
Water brings out thin, compact whorling that doesn’t settle. The nose gains more tobacco and oak, as well as hints of apple juice. The body gains more earth and some green apple. The finish gains a touch of cinnamon, but not much.
A superb dram that balances the light spirit of Penderyn with a boost of Oloroso fruit.
One for summer evenings.
Technical score: 4.5/5
Personal preference: I’d like a bottle.
