19 years old, distilled 13th May 1998, 55.0% abv, Second-Fill Hogshead, 140 bottles, dram price G
The nose has tar, ash, distant smoke and then pineapple and gammon with hints of vinegar. The mouthfeel is thin with no cling. The body has ash, mango, ash, pineapple, ash, watermelon, ash, thyme, ash, and some distant smoke from a dying, ashy fire. The finish has pineapple and - surprisingly - ash!
Water brings out thick, lazy whorling that settles briefly then dissipates. The nose gains teriyaki sauce and red apples. The body gains more thyme and the teriyaki from the nose, and a little oak. The finish gains red apple.
A lighter, sweeter expression from this distillery - the heavy peating manifests quite differently than expected. One for spring evenings on the beach...
Technical score: 4.5/5
Personal preference: I'd have another dram.
