35.127 - "Pineapple upside down cake"

16 years old, distilled 13th March 1998, 56.6% abv, first-fill ex-bourbon barrel, 222 bottles

The nose has tinned pineapples, old leather and orange zest. The mouth-feel is smooth with a little coating. The body is fruity - pineapple, mango, apricot - and then gives a little hint of ginger and tea towards the back of the mouth. The finish is dry, long and sweet - the pineapple and tea notes combining pleasantly.

Water brings tight whorling that dissipates quickly. The nose now has less leather and more fruit - the apricot but not the mango from the neat body. There's also a tannic hint of tea. The body has far less tannin - it's now fruitier, with hints of apples and plums. The finish has also gained fruit, but the tea remains.

A great dram to accompany a mid-afternoon snack.
