37.70 - "Fresh as a daisy"

15 years old, distilled 22nd August 2000, 56.9% abv, refill ex-bourbon hogshead, 303 bottles

SMWS 37.70The nose is very light - green apples, cucumber, grapefruit, and a hint of white pepper. The mouthfeel is thin, with little cling. The body has slight grassiness, with fruit and herbal hints - it's reminiscent of fabric conditioner. The finish has a little herb garden with some vanilla and white pepper.

Water brings out thick, expanding whorling that lingers for a short while before dissipating. The nose now has the herb garden notes that were previously in the finish - sage, tarragon, parsley, and a hint of mint. The body has some lemon - like drinking cloudy lemonade. The finish is herbs and white pepper.

As it sits, a little pine needle comes out in the nose.

This dram doesn't quite hang together the way I'd like it to. There's nothing wrong with it, but it's not doing what I want I to. Indeed, it grabbed me by the lapels and let me know - in no uncertain terms - that it has all the right flavours, but not necessarily in the right order. Despite that, it's still a decent dram to drink with dinner.
