SMWS 53.364 - Port Askaig meets SanlucarThe nose has charred pineapple, lemon notes and peat smoke. The body has pineapple, lemon, peach and apricot alongside peat smoke and a stony note. The finish has peat smoke and pineapple.

Water brings out thick, rapidly expanding whorling that settles into lingering mottling. The nose gains more pineapple and some liniment, and loses nothing. The body gains more pineapple and lemon, and a touch of liniment. The finish gains more pineapple and some liniment.

This dram retains its balance very well, playing sweet against peat with finesse. After water ramps up the sweetness it brings in liniment to supplement the peat, to great success.

One for summer evenings by the barbecue.

Technical score: 4.5/5

Personal preference: I’d like a bottle.
