55.29 - "A barley harvest and a fizzy buzz"

14 years old, distilled 26th September 2000, 56.9% abv, refill ex-bourbon hogshead, 239 bottles

DSC_0276The nose is full of freshly cut grass, hay, hot dusty trails on a summer's evening and a hint of lemon. The mouthfeel is smooth with a little sharpness towards the end. The body has lemon, grapefruit, barley sugar, cheap vanilla ice cream and then Cadbury's caramel. The finish is sharp, with lemon and hay.

Water brings out rapidly expanding and rapidly vanishing tight whorling. The nose now has more lemon, and a hint of new soft leather. The body is less fruity, more floral - a bouquet rather than specific flowers - and then veers towards the hot dusty trails that were in the nose. There's also a little lime juice. The finish gains eucalyptus and lime.

A superb hot summer's day tipple.
