SMWS 66.124 - Grippy and captivatingThe nose has grilled plums, new oak furniture, and toffee. The mouthfeel is thin with no cling. The body has hoisin sauce, fresh oak shavings, and a hint of bonfires in the distance. The finish is balsamic vinegar and distant bonfire smoke.

Water brings out tight, thin whorling that expands rapidly and settles into brief mottling. The nose gains hoisin sauce and loses the new oak furniture. The body gains balsamic vinegar and plums. The finish gains plums.

A curious dram, which has attempted a difficult balance. I'm not sure it quite succeeded, but it's also not failed - as though it's caught at the tipping point!

One for spring evenings.

Technical score: 3/5

Personal preference: Just the one dram, thanks.
