SMWS 9.146 - Sweet, slightly spiced meadThe nose has fudge, sultanas, peaches and a hint of cinnamon. The mouthfeel is decent with a little cling. The body has toasted bread, cherries and sultanas. There's also a little cinnamon, which continues into the finish and is joined by cherries and peach. New toasted oak can sometimes bring dominant cherry notes, but these are nicely integrated...

Water brings out thin, rapidly expanding whorling that settles quickly into brief mottling. The nose gains plum and loses the cinnamon. The body gains plum and honey, and the toasted bread is reduced. The finish gains a little fudge.

A superb dram that's really benefited from the re-racking into the virgin hogshead. One to drink by a fireside.

Technical score: 4.5/5

Personal preference: I'd like a bottle.
