SMWS 93.207 - Habourside HooplaThe nose has peach, tobacco, toffee and hints of barley. The mouthfeel is thin with no cling. The body has toffee, tobacco, sacks of barley, fish oils and a hint of peach. The finish has tobacco, fish oils and peaches.

Water brings out tight, thin rapidly expanding whorling that settles quickly into brief mottling. The nose gains more peach and toffee, and the tobacco is diminished. Also a hint of watch oil. The body gains that same watch oil, more peach and a hint of coal smoke. The finish gains watch oil and that hint of smoke.

Charming without water and superb with, this is a great example of why Campbeltown has such a high profile these days. It only misses a full 5/5 as I felt it needed water to unleash its true potential - a minor quibble, but one I’ve made before with other drams so I must remain consistent.

One for summer evenings.

Technical score: 4.5/5
Personal preference: I’d like a bottle.
