SMWS 3.234 - "Scallops cooked on a puffer shovel"

16 years old, distilled 25th September 1997, 57.5% abv, refill ex-sherry butt, 621 bottles

The nose is big and full of flavour - smoke, shellfish, brine and orange chewitts. The body has a thin but clinging mouth-feel. The flavours are sherbet dip, bonfire smoke, oranges and cinnamon. The finish is sweet smoke, and last for a long time - with hints of orange slipping in as it fades.

After water - which whorls tightly for some time - the nose has less smoke and more fruit. Oranges, blackcurrant and a little peach, all over soft smoke. The body is sharp - smoke, oranges and blackcurrant - much like the nose. The finish is just as good.

This is a superb dram for a winter's evening.
