SMWS 7.107 - "The good old days"

10 years old, distilled 22nd September 2003, 60.6% abv, first fill ex-bourbon barrel, 211 bottles

The nose has lots of oak notes - old packing crates, vanilla, damp cardboard boxes. The body has some cardamom and old books, with a hint of very sweet vanilla. The finish is old wardrobes and a touch of light watch oil.

After water (which whorls well, but vanishes quickly) the nose has a little more of a herbal note - fennel and rosemary? - which complements the original wood nicely. The body has less old books and more cinnamon. There’s also a slight mentholic note towards the finish, which is more toffee and watch oil than old wardrobes now.

A decent dram, but you drink it because you want to, not because of an occasion.
