64.101 - Freshly squeezed sugar cane and kumquat juice

9 years old, distilled 5th March 2008, 61.0% abv, Refill Ex-Bourbon Barrel, 230 bottles, dram price B

SMWS 64.101 - Freshly squeezed sugar cane and kumquat juiceThe nose is amazing - pineapple, mango, kiwi fruit, lime and a hint of golden syrup. The mouthfeel is decent - very smooth, but no cling. The body has lime and light orange notes, with golden syrup and hints of mint leaf. The finish is pineapple, kiwi fruit and lime.

Water - which I'd be very happy not to add - brings out tight, thin, rapidly expanding whorling that settles briefly into mottling. The nose gains a hint of ginger and pot-pourri. The body gains ginger towards the end, and the finish is unchanged.

Some people focus on age, rarity and other things. They will never understand why a 9 year old bottle from a blending distillery is limited to 1 bottle per person. These people are idiots, and we should be thankful they are missing drams like these.

I'd drink this at any point between solstices. Let's make it simple, and have both solstices be the summer one...

Technical score: 5/5

Personal preference: I'd like more than one bottle.

(Which sadly can't happen!)
